Proviad Research

Proviad research essential oilsOrganic acids and essential oils are widely used in the modern food and feed industry. The organic acids are widely used for their preservative effects, but they also exhibit strong bacteriostatic properties. The essential oil fractions, found in herbs and spices, are known to increase voluntary feed intake, stimulate nutrient digestion by increasing the absorption of nutrients and at the same time show antimicrobial properties.

The characteristics of the various organic acids and essential oils have been the subject of a major research project by Provimi, in order for it to develop new feeding strategies. In an extended literature review, a selection was made out of the 2,600 known essential components of the most promising individual components for pigs and broilers. The same procedure was followed for the organic acid. Based on the results of several in vitro and in vivo tests, the essential oils and organic acids, which proved to be most effective, were used in to develop new feed additives.
