Maxid is a feed additive consisting of a combination of organic acids mainly based on lactic- and formic acid. This blend is marketed by Provimi in several markets under the name ProHacid and elsewhere as Maxid. This combination of acids improves technical performance and health status of piglets, fattening pigs and sows.
Maxid decreases the pH in the feed and the stomach, which results in improved digestibility of the feed and has positive effects on the intestinal micro flora. Besides this, the product has an optimal preservative effect due to synergetic mechanism between lactic- and formic acid.
Especially in the first weeks of life, piglets have insufficient HCl secretion in stomach. Research has proven that supplying strong acids reduces pH and decreases the frequency and severity of diarrhoea problems in piglets. The blend of acids used in Maxid appears to be most effective.
Complementary, the acids used in Maxid are known to work synergistically with the essential oils used in the Proviad feed additive Cinergy and increases voluntary feed intake and stimulates nutrient digestion by increasing the absorption of nutrients.
